This is a type of documentary which is a following of peoples lives without much influence from the producers of the show. A great example of this is the award snubbed Ice Road Truckers which follows the lives of several truck drives as they travel the treacherous journey through the ice roads. Other examples include the uncritically acclaimed Road Wars.
Reality TV
This category speaks for its self a bit and of course it features programs such as Big Brother and The Jeremy Kyle Show which usually feature some king of host or recurring member on the show to present it. Feature real people and real events which no acting or much input by producers other than the layout and the host.
Docudrama
This refers to the type of doc which is mixed in with acting and also interviews and in this category this refers to most of us would just call it a documentory and in this cattorgory are awry winning doc-dramas such as the crash reel and The act of killing which both feature interviews and acting to give the viewer a sense that the actions happening as the interview
Wildlife Doc
Usually a Documentary about animals such as the critically acclaimed David Attembrough Series.
But this can refer to a lot anything from a program following the lives of animals to a program about the worlds weather. I just refers to the vain term something about the natural earth that doesn't conflict usually conflict with urban environment.
Docusoap
Made in Chelsea, the only way is essex are two good examples of docusoaps. A docusoaps is a program which follows the elite of real people and real events but inspired by the fictional soap programs such as Eastenders.
Fixed Rig Doc
Very much like Observational Docs this category tho the camera is not moved such as select episodes of road wars when they used a Police car mounted camera and the whole episode just shows all the events from that position
Interactive Doc
Interactive documentary came from film maker's Desire to give the audience a new way of interacting with the audience Usually with on screen Controls. Darren brown Did one where an audience can decide that fate of one man over a day. Eg In the Interactive doc that was made by Darren brown, You had the freedom to decide whether one of the characters was awarded with money or having his TV stolen.
News Reactive Doc
There are film makers all over the world with the fast of creating Documentaries about The lives of people who are almost dead such as Muhammad Ali in order so that when he does they can release it upon his death These Documentaries are called News Reactive Documentaries Because They Correlate with news of the recent time.
Chat Show
The Jonathan Ross show is a good example. A chat show follows the structure of a presenter who appears on the show every week ( Jonathan ross ) and celebrity guests will go on and be interviewed.
Other cat show formats include debating such as the daily politics show which will only usually feature one recognisable figure and the rest of the guests will be there for there opinion on the daily topic.
News
Perhaps the most obvious on the list one on the list is this one. This refers to the Program which is is usually on 6m everyday and tells the watchers the news on that particular day.Usually features some king of presenter unless completely narrated but this is unusual and is for channels with a lower budget.
